The Clinton-era corruption, combined with unprecedented catering to affordable-housing lobbyists, resulted in today’s nationalization of both Fannie and Freddie, a move that is expected to cost taxpayers tens of billions of dollars.

    Yes! I was just reading this yesterday! (I’m behind). Of course, also yesterday, the WaPo had a story about the terrible greed of people on the Street. Actually, I’m sympathetic to that (seeing as how I work for a public for-profit, and we’re always rushing around creating products that no one really needs, but just to please investors)… Morality is necessary for a public society (see Washington’s Farewell Address AND Adam Smith. Oh I’m preaching to the choir!)
